Gelco Chimney Cap Installation Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Chimney Cap Installation: The Toms River Owner’s Guide

We install Gelco-compatible chimney caps across Toms River for $285 to $495 installed, depending on flue size and whether your crown needs repair before mounting. Most Gelco caps we stock on the truck, and we can usually get to you within a day or two of your call. Homeowners in Toms River typically notice the problem after a storm, when water starts showing up in the firebox or they spot rust streaks running down the brick from a cap that’s pulled loose or corroded through.

Which Gelco Models This Applies To

Gelco makes several cap lines, and the right match matters. We most commonly install the Gelco Series A and Series B single-flue caps, the Series C multi-flue models, and the Series L lock-top dampers on Toms River homes. The Series A fits flues from 8″ × 8″ up to 13″ × 13″; Series B handles the larger square and rectangular flues up to 17″ × 17″. If your current cap has a Gelco stamp on the skirt or a part number starting with “A-“, “B-“, or “C-“, that’s your starting point.

Here’s where owners get tripped up: Gelco changed their mounting hardware in the early 2010s. The older caps used a bolt-through-leg system; newer ones switched to a tension-band mount. Mix the hardware and the cap sits crooked or works loose inside two seasons. We carry both mounting kits on the truck. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, we use Gelco-spec caps from Copperfield for most replacements, same 304 stainless or galvanized specs, same mesh spark-arrestor rating, at a lower parts cost we pass along. If you want the Gelco-branded box, we’ll order it, but the performance is identical and the warranty runs through us either way.

Signs Your Gelco Chimney Cap Is Failing

  • Rust-colored streaks on the chimney brick. Gelco galvanized caps last roughly 12 to 15 years in Toms River’s salt-air climate before the coating fails. Once moisture gets under the finish, the steel underneath oxidizes and bleeds down the masonry every rain.
  • Water in the firebox after a storm. The cap mesh or lid has separated from the skirt, or the mounting legs have corroded at the base. Wind off Barnegat Bay drives rain sideways; a gap you can’t see from the ground lets it straight into the flue.
  • Mesh screen pulled loose or missing sections. Squirrels and raccoons in Toms River’s older neighborhoods, especially around Silverton, treat damaged mesh like an open door. The animal gets in, the cap gets worse, and now you have two problems.
  • Cap sitting tilted or shifted from center. The mounting hardware has fatigued, or the crown surface underneath has spalled and no longer gives the legs a flat seat. A tilted cap channels water toward the flue instead of away from it.
  • Damper won’t open or close fully on a Series L lock-top. The cable has frayed, the spring mechanism has corroded, or debris has jammed the lid. A stuck-closed damper traps smoke; stuck-open wastes heat and invites animals down the flue.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Toms River
Gelco-compatible cap, standard single-flue (installed) $285 - $375
Gelco-compatible cap, large single-flue or multi-flue (installed) $350 - $495
Crown repair or leveling (if needed before mounting) $180 - $340 additional
Series L lock-top damper replacement with cap $425 - $595

What drives the range: flue size, whether we need to fabricate a custom skirt for an odd-size flue, and the condition of the crown underneath. We don’t guess at any of it. Our technician photographs the crown and flue opening, shows you the images, and gives you the exact price before any work starts. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Every cap installation carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing - if it’s not right, we come back, no arguing, no paperwork to dig up.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check whether your cap is loose by sight from the ground with binoculars, and you can confirm water in the firebox with a flashlight. What you should not do is climb a wet roof in Toms River’s coastal wind to wrestle with sheet metal edges and masonry anchors. The fall risk is real, and a cap that isn’t seated and sealed correctly will leak worse than the old one.

We carry Gelco-compatible caps, mounting hardware for both old and new leg styles, and the sealants rated for 304 stainless on our trucks. Most replacements take under 90 minutes once we’re on site. If you’d rather not spend a Saturday guessing at measurements on a ladder, call (609) 303-9679. We’ll give you a free estimate and a date we plan to keep.
